KEN CUDMORE
Fine Art — Oil & Acrylic

Background
I come from a family of painters: parents and four siblings, all of whom enjoy painting.  In 2012, I exchanged my CPA pencil for a palette knife and paintbrush.  As an abstract landscape artist in both oil and acrylic, I painted my first 100 paintings without any art lessons whatsoever.  This allowed the artist within to find expression without being overshadowed by the rules (of the art world).
Style and Influences
My paintings exhibit energy and motion. Clearly the exploration of colours results in the expression of motion, which is widely imagined in my work.  The wonder of the skies is well represented and is foundational to my paintings.  The sea’s importance has formed part of my DNA and is evident in the portrayal of water in my paintings.
Technique and Method
Unlike most other artists, my paintings are generally not informed by reference materials like photos or real life settings, but rather are inspired by putting paint to canvas. The painting is there; it is just waiting to be found. You will note the preponderance of palette knife over brush, which is not common amongst painters.
Training and Workshops
I have enjoyed multi-day workshops in PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Calgary with instructors such as Sandi Komst, Mike Swob, David Dunlop, and Brian Buckrell. All different and all inspiring.
